Photography 101. Todays assignment: Mystery and Lighting Effects.
Hello Bloganaughts.
Well, we are halfway through this course now and I have to admit that I’m having a ball!
Todays mission is to create a photograph that encompasses “Mystery” at the same time as using light to create mood and effect. I have to admit that I have been looking forward all day to getting to work with a camera, some bits and bobs and a few ideas.
If I say so myself, I’m pretty darn pleased with the end result too!
I do have a slight problem, because I can’t make up my mind between the colour shot or the same in black and white. I am open to suggestions, comments and opinions!
…”a ride on a mystery train, to a place I’ve never been.”
Catch you all soon,
Dookes
I prefer the colour photo, because you can see the colour of the keys and the wood of the handle…

Miss Harley, in the library, with the lead piping!
Colour (only just though) for the warmth of the shot 🙂

Not quite…but on the right lines!
I like the way that the colour shot brings out the edge on the knife blade.

The warmth of the wood and the subtle colour in the candle is why I slightly prefered it over the B&W image.
OK. Miss Harley in the garage with the knife at 8.20pm during a power cut – she was jealous of your new Batmobile and slashed all the tyres!

To continue alba10’s saga…
Miss Harley waited patiently. She knew he would step in the door at 8.30. Yes, she had sharpen the knife, the foldable knife that would fit in her shirt pocket. The basement keys will still double lock the door. Patience… a slash of his jugular veins and a push down the stairs was going to take care of the man who had killed her love. A dead man no longer needs a housekeeper when the house burns down. 2 long years and her wait is now coming to an end. Never toy with members of the Harley family for Hell hath no fury like a Harley scorned.

I love it! Exactly what I was thinking…. except my imagination isn’t as good as yours! 🙂

I don’t usually, but in this case prefer the colour, it adds warmth, contrast and unity to the picture and adds to the mystery

Wow, that’s a tough one because I love both versions…but the color wins it for me also. I really love the wood grain of the table and the play of light. Great photo!

Thanks. Actually I used the table for that very reason.

I like the colored one. When I was young, I used to love reading Nancy Drew mystery books so naturally… I thought of this as one of its cover photos! 🙂

I’d agree the colour photo is a stronger image and conveys more mystery than the black and white photo…

Just catching up after an absence – love that photo! Yes, the colour for me too – it provides more detail whilst retaining all the mystery. But I read all Alba’s guesses and thought there’d be the solution at the end!

Ah yes! Thanks for the prod Curtis! The answer…
The candle lights up the key.
Two keys, two things to unlock.
The watch, lit up by the ray of light is at 8-20…the TWO hands on 8 and 4.
What are the eighth and fourth letters of the alphabet?
H and D. Hogrider Dookes or Harley Davidson!
The knife? A red herring, like any good mystery story has!
Oh and a public “sorry” to poor Alba, for keeping her guessing!

That’s fiendish, Dookes! I’m not sure even Hercule Poirot would have got it. Excellent.
