  1. I’ve read several of your posts, but Blogging 101 has me tied to my laptop, so I thought I would jump here to your About page. I like your writing. I, too, tend to be on the shy side. I’m an introvert. My brother used to ride a Harley. Nice to meet you!

  3. Hello, Mr. Dookes, thank you for sniffing out my blog. I am sorry to say that if you were to ride past me on your motorcycle, I would bark at you most ferociously. Fortunately, here on the Internet, you are nice and quiet, so I will not feel compelled to bark at you.

    • Hello Albert, my friends just call me Dookes and as you are now my new Doggy friend please drop the Mister bit.
My eight year old puppy “Befff” agrees with you that my Harley is very noisy and deserves a good bark, she says that she will do an extra Woof just for you next time I start it up!

    • Hello Paul
It is fantastic to hear from you and I am humbled that you got in touch to say thank you. I hope that you enjoyed the post.
They were all incredibly brave young men who volunteered to do such a dangerous job.
My father was a Flight Engineer with 7 Squadron RAF, also part of the Pathfinder Force, he fortunately came home.
You may be interested to see the follow up post, when I visited the resting place of your Uncle and his crew mates.

      • Great to hear from you Dookes! I hope one day to visit my uncle’s grave as my sister did a few years back. Must say it was quite extraordinary to read your impressively detailed post on my uncle’s last flight, which gave reality and insight into what had happened to him. Also very moving to read your visit to the tombs of Uncle Bob and fellow crew members.

News of my uncle’s death reached my father (who was with Australian military intelligence in Papua New Guinea in WW2) on his birthday. My Dublin-born grandfather who fought in WW1 with the Royal Munster Fusiliers (by this stage living in Toowoomba Qld) commented in a letter to a mate that each time the airmen went off on missions would have been like “going over the top” in trench warfare. Such incredibly brave young men…
